Reflection #Diversity

Diversity is found among many places around the world. It is based on a variety of cultures mixed together. In the film X men, diversity was shown among the characters. Each character has the ability to do something different, diversity doesn't always depend on the different cultures but just on the differences certain individuals carry. The power each character carries represents their particular character. They each define themselves by helping each other out. As represented in the film not everyone accepts the way they are made, especially the people we are surrounded by. Diversity consists of a variety of differences among individuals and not everyone accepts the way other individuals look or are. As shown in the film the blue girl wasn't very happy over her blue side, hank apparently showed it wasn't attractive-looking for him but in the other hand Erik thought that quality made her for whom she was. Hank as well wasn't satisfied with his appearance, he believed it wasn't accepting to society so he would hide it by not taking his shoes off. Unfortunately he tries to change his appearance by a formula he makes, which makes things worse. He also tries to convince the blue girl to change her appearance as well, but Erik helps her to accept herself for who she is.

Through the film many conflicts were faced due to the differences found among one another. A group of diverse individuals will always face conflicts because everyone thinks different and has different beliefs and qualities. This reflects a lot on today's society which is full of diversity, each individual carries his or her values, and that's where it gets hard to agree. Among the film each character tries to help each other out to overcome conflicts, such as Charles he tries to help Erik forget about all the negative and bad things that have happened throughout his life. Erik seeks revenge and Charles believes that will not get him anywhere. At the end they each go their own way due to the differences in opinions but that's just a part of diversity.

Reflection #8 GOODWILL HUNTING

The film "Goodwill Hunting" reflects a lot over friendship. The film shows how important the presence of a friend is when the other one is facing tough times. I feel Will and Chucky hold a very comfortable relationship among each other. They each feel comfortable talking to each other as in rude or just straight forward. Both of these young men help each others back and are always there for one another in the good and bad times. They also show support and provide advice when they ar facing a problem.

Will and Skylar hold different beliefs and thoughts among each other. Will compared to Skylar is a poor young man that is very stubborn and doesn't accept he is wrong sometimes. He is a very brilliant man that cannot accept his brilliant side into a chance to change his life. Skylar in the other hand is a beautiful young lady that attends Harvard University and is wealthy. She is a very enthusiastic and fun lady that sees everything positive and doesn't judge. Throughout Skylars and Wills dating period they both show a great connection with each other even though they both are very different from one another. Skylar plays a very important role throughout Wills life, she changes his perspectives on life and helps him realize it's okay to be an orphan and be poor. Professor Lambeau also helps him throughout the film by giving him another opportunity to make a success out of his life. Although it's not easy to help him get through this process in the end Will sees life a different way and realizes none of his past was his fault thanks to the therapies he attended with Sean. Will realizes he has the value to have the talent of being a genious and not everyone has the opputunity he has. He realized this but didin't make much of a change to that perspective, he also realized he lost a good girl for being a fool and thinking he didin't deserve her. They both were in a way different class. As we have discussed in class over values, this film shows how important humility can help a person pursue his or her personal growth. Will was helped in many ways by different people, such as Professor Lambeau, Sean, Chucky his friends, and Skylar. Each one of these persons helped him pursue his life in a positive way. Even though Professor Sean's values compared to Sean's were not much alike they both had the need to help Will and make his life much better. Professor Lambeau and Will were very different, Will was poor and Professor Lambeau was rich. They both enjoyed math but had a different view in what Will's future should be like.

In the end Will decides to follow his heart and goes in search for Skylar, realizing that's what he really wants. Not only does he follow his heart but he reaches what truly makes him happy. He ends up appreciating everyones help, and shows his friends he's off to achieving something new in his life, and that he can't always stay in the same place thinking everything is his fault, and that he will take advantage on the chances he is faced with.

Reflection #7 Research Paper Ideas

Writing a research paper can always be difficult, but if you're filled with ideas it can make it much easier. For my research paper I would like to do further research over the two following majors, accounting and phsycology. I'm highly interested in investigating further on the majors mentioned, they both have great facts over what they offer. Also they are majors that are widely known. For the most I'm interested in the college of bussiness. For the occupations I'm not too sure yet, I still have more to think about on that one. Having to interview specific people that carry this career will be difficult since I don't know anyone that has this career, although it will be a fun experience to find someone with it and fun to explore. For the semester presentation I think I have a lot to say, so far it's been a very useful class and very veneficial for my major preference. It has offered me an abundance of help towards my major, also it has encouraged me to explore majors and careers that are out there to offer. Eventhough I'm not 100% decided yet, I  know this class will prepare me for an answer by the end of the semester.

Reflection #6 Writing Abilities

Writing has always been my weakness, and a struggle for me throughout the past years. I have
always disliked to write essays or simple assignments. I'm not too comfortable writing essays, since I feel
they need a lot of work. I'm also not so confident over my writing format, I feel it's all out of order and doesn't make any sense. This is one of the reasons why people struggle in understanding my writing and what I'm expressing in it. I feel like I need more improvement within my writing and its meaning. One thing I definitely need to improve is voice. My writing is very weak in voice, and that's one of the main things that makes an essay or writting assignment strong and easy to understand. If a writing paper has voice it is easier for the reader to focus on the topic, and be entertained by the writer. Yet if the writing assignment doesn't have any voice then the reader won't be interested in reading the paper. What makes writing interesting is the introduction as well. That's another thing I struggle with too. Although I do feel I have improved in my writing for the past two years, I still feel more improvements should be made and writing takes a big part in college now, which will help me become a better writer.

Reflection #4 Interviews

If I could interview any two persons in the world I would have to go with the Mark Cuban and Bill Gates. I believe both of these men have excellent knowledge. They both have managed to live a
successful life. I admire both men for carrying their lives in such manner. Mark Cuban is the owner of the basketball team Dallas Mavericks, Landmark Theatres, Magnolia Pictures, chairman of HDTV cable network, and part-time investor of the television series Shark Tank. Mark Cuban, I believe is a man that runs his business very well and has had great success! Bill Gates is a business magnate, investor, philanthropist, author, former CEO, and chairman of Microsoft. As for Bill Gates he has also had a very well prosperity, and triumph throughtout his career! Both of these men have had great progress and I admire both for such achievements!

Twenty years from now I would like to be working in the business field, as either an economist, investor, or accountant. I would like to be in my own office and be my own boss, have a nice house and a big family. I believe Mark Cuban and Bill Gates would be the perfect ones to interview, they both have the knowledge that is necessary for the questions I would want to ask. Some of the questions I would have for them would be how did they reach such success in managing the business so well? How do you manage a business without letting it fraud? What is the first step you have to take to manage to be where you are today? How does it feel to have so much to handle at the same time? Is it frustrating to to know there is a lot of competition out there? Is it hard to handle a business alone? I know most of these questions would be very beneficial to be answered by both men to me. They would help me decide where in the business field I would succeed the most! I also believe they have enough experience to know the secrets in businesses today, which would be a great help. It would motivate me to become a great achiever and be successful in my future. Most business majors are very competitive and require for one to know a lot of knowledge that I believe these men carry among theirseves. Managing to get these questions answered would lead me to retain not only important information but also beneficial.

In todays society we don't see many women handling businesses, it's a pretty tough career were most men run. Both Gates and Cuban today remain to be in the top business men among others. They have great capacity to handle their job the right way, eventhough it gets complicated they know what they're doing. I consider both to be a great example to pople wanting to major in the business field. They show great leadership to the community and set an example to others. They're positions inspire others to want to succeed in life as well, and it's not impossible. For me they show great inspiration and motivate me to become someone with great possesion in my future, and I know it would be to my advantage to be able to interview them and see from what perspective they come from.

Reflection #5 Freakonomics

The common theme in most of the experiments showed in this film would be to prove theories. Ideas would be stated and then experiments would be made. After these experiments most theories would be proven or unproven, questions were answered, and advice was given at the end. Most theories were correct, and others would have to be questioned.

The approach of the researchers compare to our discussions of Liberal Arts education by showing the same perspective. If we focus and learn what we already have learned we will stay well-rounded. Also it's important to store valuable information various of times if needed. The film also showed that the purpose of college is very important, the more we study the more knowledge we retain. The film showed very interesting experiments, I was surprised by the result of most them. Especially in the experiment of the names, many people like to stereotype by a persons name. A persons name can take effect in a persons life on a daily basis due to stereotyping but as a conclusion ones name certainly cannot predict their future or success in life. I also was surprised by how children can be bribed by their parents into doing something they don't want to do. I thought it was pretty funny how they start listening once they get what they want. It's surprising how it works! The results for the experiment on freshmens in high school was quite interesting, I believe bribery should be used more often to motivate students to try their hardest in their education.

Overall I believe the researchers did a great job in putting this film together. The information presented was fair and reasonable in todays society. The ideas were clever and showed effect on possibilities we could take today. Bribery was one, and it showed that it can take a great effect on children and students. The showing of corruption as well, corruption is found almost everywhere and we don't even notice. The documentary Freakonomics was very broad with the ideas made and I believe it was very beneficial to others.

Reflection #2 Learning Styles

I always thought of myself as a visual learner, it turned out to be i was multimodal, which means I have strong preferences for more than one way of learning. I also ended up being kinesthetic as well, which means I can learn by live experiences and examples brought up to me, and I realized this was true.
As I grew up learning, various of things were taught to me in a visual, aural, reading, and writing way. I had trouble listening and focusing on what the teacher would say, so I figured aural learning wasn't the best way for me to learn. Aural learning has never worked so good for me, as of today I still doodle around class and loose focus very easily. Reading and writing learning has somehow improved my way of learning this year, having to read on my own for many of my classes has taught me to focus more and understand my reading better. For the writing part, I don't feel strong in that section because handouts aren't so good for me to understand the concept. As for visual learning I had strong preferences for, I believe if things are shown to me visually ill get the picture and understanding in a better way. Most of the time ill remember pictures and what they mean, and that gets me through most of my studying. The strongest way of learning for me was kinesthetic learning and I believe it's right. I always tend to make higher grades when leaning from a live experience. I get better understanding when a test or assignment is shown to me before the actual thing, because then ill know what the real thing will be like and what is expected to be known. Such as labs, they show me in a real way what everthing is about and how it happened, and I believe this way of learning is my strongest.
Overall, the method VARK showed me the methods of learning, and importance it carries. It also helps alot to know your strongest side of learning because that way you realize your strengths and weaknesses. Now I understand the learning styles better and take all of its information in consideration, they are very beneficial.
